Bipolar Disorder is a chronic mood disorder that is characterized by extreme highs and lows that can be confusing for family members, teachers, and others who are involved in the child's life. Until recently, mental health and medical diagnosticans were reluctant to diagnose this disorder in children due to the fact that the symptoms do not strictly adhere to the ones cited in the DSM-IV for adults. New research outlined in the DSM-TR has helped clinicians better address and treat this troubling disorder in children.
